Health & Wellbeing Hub Project
Te Pūtahi Ora
A new integrated health facility has been built for the Horowhenua Community to deliver a range of services in a new purpose built modern facility. The building blessing and name unveiling, was held at dawn on 22nd October 2025.
Need and Vision
In 2021 we recognised the desperate need for improved access to healthcare services in Horowhenua. We validated the needs through a series of community healthcare sector engagements we visited in a range of sites in and around the Lower North Island, Auckland and Christchurch and worked with experts in the sector to develop a concept that will work for our community, our place, our people.
This Hub will provide much needed greater access to primary healthcare. The need for this investment is not just now but also to meet the demands of our growing population. Our vision is to provide a fit for purpose facility, combined with greater professional practice opportunities through aligning with the future of specialist services being available in Horowhenua.
On 18th October 2024, we held a groundbreaking and blessing ceremony and preparation for construction. We are proud to be partnering with on this project with local business Homestead Construction Ltd.
Nearly a year later, the blessing and unveiling of Te Pūtahi Ora our new Health & Wellbeing Hub in Levin was held.
Gifted its name by Muaūpoko, Te Pūtahi Ora means a place for heart, health and wellbeing, a beautiful reflection of the partnership between iwi and our stakeholders, and developers, that has guided this project from the very beginning.
Developed by Horowhenua Developments Ltd, a subsidiary of the Horowhenua New Zealand Trust, the Hub brings together four health services under one roof, creating better access and stronger connections for our district.
Te Pūtahi Ora tenants include Taitoko Health and Canopy Radiology, who will be opening on 30th October 2025. Later in the year, once fit outs are completed, Berrys Pharmacy and KCP Physio will open their doors.
Antony Young (HNZT Chair) thanked the partners, funders and donors who have supported this project, which included a grant from Eastern and Central Community Trust for landscaping – creating a welcoming outdoor space with trees and seating.
“It shows what can be achieved when community, iwi, and local leadership work side by side. Te Pūtahi Ora is a place built for our people, by our people and it will serve our community for generations to come.”
